Cheap Flights

Find a real US flight. Not a mystery-fee screenshot.

The fee stack

All-in totals: bags, seats, and the change rule that actually matters

The first number on a flight search is an advertisement for the second screen. Here is how to read a CheapOair (or airline) checkout without a fake “from” price from us.

A cheap flight fails at checkout more often than it fails in the search grid. The grid is built to sort. Checkout is where the bag, the seat, and the “what if timed entry moves” sentence live. Cheap Flights exists so that sentence is read on purpose. We will not print a sample fare to make the paragraph feel current.

What “all-in” means on this site

All-in means: the number you would actually pay to have a confirmed seat on that flight, with the bags you will actually bring, before you add trip insurance you may not need. It is not a promise that CheapOair’s first tile equals that number. It is a habit. Open the fare. Open the bag table. Open the change rule. Then decide.

Basic economy — whatever the airline is calling it this year — is a different product from the main cabin fare that still lets you pick a seat or carry on a roller. OTAs and airline sites both sell it. The OTA is not uniquely guilty. The headline sort is.

Bags are a route fact, not a personality

A park week out of LAS or DEN usually has a layer someone will try to check: hiking shoes that do not belong in a personal item, a child’s car seat, a week of groceries you should not have flown. City weeks are lighter and still lose money on a “cheap” fare that charges for the carry-on you assumed was free.

Read the carrier’s bag table for that ticket, not a memory of a different airline. Ultra-low-cost and traditional carriers do not share a bag religion. CheapOair will show the carrier. Confirm it. If two legs are two carriers, you have two bag policies. That is a connection tax the grid will not label as a tax.

  • Personal item versus carry-on versus checked: three lines, not one “bags” toggle.
  • Weight and linear-inch rules are the airline’s, even when you paid an OTA.
  • A park week with a car seat or a cooler is not a personal-item itinerary. Price it that way.
  • We do not publish a bag fee chart. Charts rot. The checkout does not.

Seats are optional until they are not

Families who need to sit together should not shop the fare that assigns seats at the gate. Solo travelers who do not care can. That is the whole editorial. We will not rank “best seats on a 737.” We will say: if the week fails when the six-year-old is in 32A and you are in 14C, you are not shopping basic economy, on CheapOair or anywhere else.

Change rules and a weather-sensitive park week

Park Week itineraries still move: a seasonal road, a shuttle calendar, a Recreation.gov slot, a storm that makes DEN a parking lot. A nonchangeable ticket is a second itinerary, not a discount. If the week can still move, you want a fare whose change or cancel language you have actually read — on the OTA and, if they differ, on the airline.

Who you call when something breaks is part of the product. Airline-direct puts you in the carrier’s app. An OTA ticket can mean the OTA desk first. Neither is automatically friendlier. Know which phone number is on the confirmation before you are standing at LAS at 10 p.m.

What this page will not do

It will not invent a round-trip total for LAS–anywhere. It will not publish a coupon. It will not claim Gary Thomas mystery-shopped every Fareportal checkout. Corrections with a carrier rule page or a CheapOair help URL go to gary@4lifehealthwealth.com.

Booking buttons hop to the CheapOair homepage until live CJ or Rakuten click URLs are pasted in. We may earn a commission. We do not invent the total you will see after the click.
